John Forster FitzGerald emerged from County Clare to become a British Field Marshal and Liberal Member of Parliament. He fought through the Peninsular War, survived French capture, and later commanded armies in India before representing his home county in Parliament. His life stretched from Irish roads to global commands, ending in Tours, France, in 1877.
