Golden Lane still stands where John Field entered the world on 26 July 1782, the same day he was baptised at the local church. He later created the nocturne, shaping quiet music that Chopin would one day carry further. Field left Ireland and died in Moscow on 27 January 1867, but the lane remains a small memorial to the birth of nocturnal song.
