This blue commemorative plaque records: John Douglas (1830-1911) Architect. Practised in Chester for over fifty years. Using timber-framing, brick and stone, he gave the city some of its best-loved and most distinctive buildings. His most famous legacy is the Eastgate Clock.
John Douglas (1830-1911) was a prominent architect based in Chester whose work significantly shaped the city's architectural landscape over five decades; he is best remembered for designing the iconic Eastgate Clock, which has become a symbol of Chester.
