What is recorded here
Royal Hillsborough in County Down, Ireland, is the confirmed birthplace of Jimmy McLarnin, the two-time undisputed welterweight champion ranked second only to Sugar Ray Robinson among all fighters. He was born there on 19 December 1907, though he later claimed Dublin or Belfast because his nomadic butcher father moved the family often. That geographic confusion suits a man who became the Beltin' Celt, the Belfast Spider and the Dublin Destroyer before dying at ninety-six in Richland, Washington.
