Jedburgh, Old Bongate

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Jedburgh, Old Bongate as Cross Base (early Medieval), Findspot (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to St. Bectan, the site is traditionally associated with healing and pilgrimage, with the nearby Bectan’s Well believed to have curative properties. Local tradition holds that the saint was a 7th-century Irish monk who founded a cell at Jedburgh, and his relics were venerated at the site until the Reformation.
