Cranna in County Tipperary gave birth to James Myles O'Gorman on October 4, 1804, launching a life that would cross oceans and reshape a vast American frontier. He left behind Trappist silence at Mount Melleray to become Vicar Apostolic of Nebraska, where three priests became nineteen and a few scattered souls grew into twelve thousand Catholics across fifty-six missions. His death in Omaha on July 4, 1874, did not close the work; it handed the growing church to others who could build on what he had planted in unfamiliar soil.
