Ivar of Limerick died in 977 on Inis Cathaigh, ending the last Norse kingdom in that part of Ireland. He spent his life clawing back power from the rising Dál gCais, becoming the great antagonist in the saga Cogad Gáedel re Gallaib. The small island holds the final breath of a man who would not stop fighting, even as his own world collapsed around him.
