This blue commemorative plaque records: Ivan Levinstein, 1845-1916. Chemist and dyestuffs manufacturer Blackley Works. A member of the City Education Committee, he campaigned for a municipal technical college, opened in this building in 1902 becoming the Faculty of Technology, Manchester University 1905 the precursor of UMIST. Recorded plaque organisation: Royal Society of Chemistry.
