What is recorded here

Crannog islands are ancient lake villages, wooden stakes and house floors buried under water. If Derryelvin holds one, people lived above the swamp, beside reeds and rain, long before roads or fields. The name Crannog suggests a built island, not a natural rock. That much is in the name itself.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as ISLAND, possibly CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
