Ironmill Bay features a sea cliff composed mainly of Old Red Sandstone, formed during the Devonian period around 400 to 360 million years ago. The rock was deposited in a fluvial and deltaic environment and is notable for its erosion patterns and exposure of sedimentary layers along the coast.
