Inveraray Castle Estate, Malt Land, Cottages are eighteenth-century estate cottages beside the castle in Argyll and Bute. They are small enough to imagine crowded with servants, brewers or keepers, yet grand enough to belong beneath a castle’s shadow. The malt land suggests barley, steam and heavy sacks moving through narrow doors. The cottages may have fed the castle, employed its people or simply waited for hands strong enough to carry its weight.
