Inside Poole's Cavern is a limestone cave formed by the dissolution of soluble rock, typical of karst landscapes in the Peak District. The cavern has a long history of human use, with evidence of prehistoric activity and later appearances in local folklore, including tales of hidden treasure and ancient rituals.
