Inscribed stone in Tibradden

Situated on the NW slopes of Tibradden Mountain. A cross is cut on the face of a large granite rock 25m SE of a cairn (DU025-023001-). The cross is incised and has expanded terminals (H0.63m, Wth 0.44m) Beside the cross is incised a crowned figure, with upraised arms, whose body consists of a smaller but similar cross (Swords, K. ed. 2009, 108). It was first recorded by W. St. J. Joyce in 1912. Likely dating to the early medieval period, the cross suggests a Christian context, possibly associated with a local monastic or pilgrimage site. Such stones often marked sacred ground or served as memorials.
