What is recorded here

Inscribed stone in Edmondstown, County Louth, holds fragments from a lost castle, including one marked 1574 and another bearing the coats of arms of the de Verduns and Plunkets. Those stones were broken, carried, and rebuilt into ordinary farm walls, turning a noble house into a boundary for fields and animals. The date still stands out because it refused to disappear, marking the moment a castle stopped being a castle and became a farm.

Farm buildings adjacent to possible castle site (LH013-006003-) contain pieces of late medieval dressed stone (LH013-006004-), one bearing the date 1574 (LH013-006005-) and another has the coat of arms of the de Verduns and Plunkets (LH013-006006-).
