Indicated

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished enclosure in County Mayo, Ireland, mapped in 1838 as a possible conjoined ringfort before cultivation erased its marks. It may have been a defensive stronghold or a crowded residential complex, but soil and plough removed the evidence. The land still holds the shape of forgotten lives, waiting for someone to imagine what was lost.
Shown on OS map (1838) as part of possible conjoined ringfort (MA100-126----). Levelled, land under cultivation. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 394. Date of upload: 11 February 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
