What is recorded here

Indicated is a small circular crannog sitting in deep water at the NE angle of Shantonagh Lough in County Monaghan. It measures about 18m across, rises no more than 1.5m, and still shows a kerb of half-metre boulders on its SW shore with ghost piles lurking in the NW water. The lough stretches nearly 600m around that bay, making the island less like a field and more like a room built in the middle of a drowned house. Whoever stacked those stones did not decorate; they marked a edge, a door, a promise that the water could be shaped into a place for living.

Situated in deep water in a bay (dims c. 240m N-S; c. 170m NE-SW) at the NE angle of the subrectangular Shantonagh Lough (max. dims c. 600m E-W; 530m N-S). This is a circular scrub-covered island (diam. 18m; max. H 1.5m) with a kerb of boulders (diam. c. 0.5m) visible at the SW shore and some piles visible in the water at NW.
