What is recorded here

Indicated is a crannog in County Mayo, Ireland. It is an artificial island, often built of stone, wood and soil, where people lived above the water. The name gives no further detail, but the form is clear. A crannog is a small made world, raised from the lake or bog to keep life dry. Someone built it, lived there and left it behind. The water closed over the work, and the lake kept the shape of their hands.
