What is recorded here
Situated on a NW-facing slope. Oval area (dims. 28m NW-SE; 22m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 7m at the E and 2.5-3m elsewhere) with an external fosse (Wth 2.5-3m at the SE and 1.40m at the SW). The interior is slightly terraced and falls sharply from SE to NW where the site is defined by a sharp, partly artificial drop and the fosse. Access is via a ramp and a gap (Wth 1.2m) in the bank at the NW. An apparently contemporary subrectangular area (dims. 34m NW-SE; 32m NE-SW) is attached at the NE. It is defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2-2.5m; int. H 0.6-1.2m) with a sharp, partly artificial drop at the NW and NE. Access to the main enclosure is through a gap (Wth 0.75m) in the dividing bank; narrow gaps in the bank at the NE and S may also be original features
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
