What is recorded here

Indicated is a trapezoidal stone enclosure on a steep Black Head slope, overlooking Galway Bay. Modern herringbone walls surround older medieval double walls, creating a layered boundary where human hands kept returning across centuries. The bare rock inside and the distant cashel suggest a place used for watching, hiding, or holding something valuable against the sea wind.

On a gentle to moderately steep N-facing slope (400-500’) of Black Head with panoramic views over Galway Bay. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A trapezoidal enclosure (23m N–S; Wth at S 19m; Wth at N 16m) defined by relatively modern herringbone-style field walls (max. H 1.3m; Wth 0.8m). The N and E walls sit on older double-walling (Wth 1.3–1.7m) of possible medieval date. An entrance near the N end of the E wall (Wth 0.6m) may be relatively modern. The interior has a lot of bare outcropping rock. A cashel (CL001-010----), from which this site is visible, is located c.350m upslope to SSE.
