Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a low earthen ringfort in Mayo pasture, standing beside two other forts and marked by stone field boundaries. Its shallow bank encloses a small circular space where people may have lived, herded, or hidden before the land became quiet. The name sounds like a pointer rather than a memory, as if the place still directs attention to itself.
In low-lying level pasture, with ringforts: (MA121-158----), 50m NE and (MA121-156001-), 180m SW. Roughly circular area (50m N-S; 45m E-W), enclosed by earthen bank (ext. H 1.4m). Stone field boundaries to S and W. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 195. Date of upload: 16 January 2015
