Located on top of a drumlin. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 30-35m) is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’, and the circular feature is still extant on the 1907 later edition. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 25m WNW-ESE; 24m NNE-SSW) that is now used as a haggard with trees planted on the perimeter. It is defined by traces of an earthen bank that is largely reduced to a scarp (at N: H 1.2m) and an outer fosse that is replaced by a lane SW-N-SSE. An entrance at E (Wth of base 2m) could be the original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
