Indicated

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Indicated occupied undulating pasture in County Mayo when mapped in 1838, marking a circular enclosure that may have been a ringfort. The land has since been levelled, erasing the visible boundary and leaving behind a ghost of a shape. It is a forgotten room in the earth, waiting for someone to imagine the life that filled it before the soil forgot.
In undulating pasture. Shown on OS map (1838) as circular enclosure. Levelled; no visible surface traces. Possibly a ringfort. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 382. Date of upload: 11 February 2013
