bridge1490 yd

Explorer Tom Bridge in Finnoo is suspicious of the postman, thinking he's smuggling secrets under that stone arch. It stands tall with a grudge against every delivery truck. Take the long way round, it’s watching your tyres closely.

Enclosure in Loghill (shanid By.)Enclosure · 1632 yd

Explorer Tom This heart-shaped enclosure in Loghill thinks it found a shortcut, but it just ends up looking like a very confused footprint in the pasture. It’s been levelled so hard that only a scarped edge is left, which is basically the earth saying 'I gave up.' Best seen with a hangover and a sausage roll.

water pump1657 yd

Explorer Tom Water pump in Ballyhahill has a prophecy etched into it that says it will one day dispense pure gold instead of water. It hasn't happened yet, but the fluted cap is definitely getting a little shiny with hope. Try not to lick it just in case it works.

Prospect HillMountain / peak · 1.8 mi

Explorer Tom Prospect Hill in County Limerick is having a massive drama with the nearest tree because the tree keeps dropping leaves on its head and calling it a fashion statement. It’s got that 'look at me' energy despite just being a slightly taller mound of dirt. Go with someone who loves old stuff and watch them melt.

Monterey Cypress2.6 mi

Explorer Tom Monterey Cypress in County Limerick is deeply suspicious of the postman, thinking he's spying on its private moments. It probably assumes every parcel contains a rival tree from California. Take the long way round, it deserves the effort.

Shanid Castle (in ruins)Castle, Anglo-Norman masonry castle · 3.3 mi

Explorer Tom Shanid Castle was nearly sold for a horse in a deal that still makes the lawyers blush to this day. It sits on a motte as a circular keep, looking like it’s just waiting for someone to tell it a good joke. Tell it a joke, it's been a long time since anyone did.

Shanid CastleCastle · 3.3 mi

Explorer Tom Shanid Castle has been hiding a massive scandal for centuries, likely involving a very awkward dinner party and a missing chandelier. It’s perched on that motte like it’s got somewhere better to be. If you can’t get in, just admire it from the road like a polite stalker.

Labasheeda BayBay · 4.1 mi

Explorer Tom Labasheeda Bay claims its best friend is actually a very famous pop star who hides here to escape the paparazzi, though the locals are pretty sure he’s just a confused tourist with a bad sunburn. The bay treats him like royalty, giving him the calmest waters possible so he can practice his harmonies in peace without any interruptions. Perfect place to be dramatically windswept.

Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime MuseumMuseum · 4.2 mi

Explorer Tom Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum in County Limerick would be the uncle at the wedding who keeps talking about his boat for forty-five minutes straight. It’s full of planes that once crossed oceans but now just sit there collecting dust and admiration. Find the date carved somewhere and feel clever.

Foynes Island ViewpointViewpoint · 4.2 mi

Explorer Tom Foynes Island Viewpoint in Limerick started because two lads made a bet in the pub that they could spot a ship before the harbour master did, and one of them lost his dignity. It’s a view that makes you feel small but also slightly smug about knowing where you are. Practise your Irish on it, it won't correct you.

Labasheeda QuayVisitor information · 4.2 mi

Explorer Tom Labasheeda Quay says if it won the lotto, it would just buy more fish so nobody could ever get hungry again. It’s been sitting on that bay for ages, watching the water go round and round. Whisper a secret at it, it's kept worse.

Grave YardGraveyard · 4.7 mi

Explorer Tom Graveyard in Killofin has a view over the Shannon that would make any Instagrammer weep with joy. There was a prophecy about it, but it never came true, which is typical for these places. Get there early and have it all to yourself.
