What is recorded here
Indicated is a ruined fairy fort in County Mayo, Ireland. Its earth bank still stands ten feet high on a low ridge, enclosing a grassy circle where people may have lived before forgetting the name. The northern ditch has nearly vanished, but the southern stones remain sharp enough to cut bare ankles.
In pasture on the crest of a low NE–SW running ridge. A fairly overgrown subcircular area (int. diams. 28m E–W; 24m N–S) is enclosed by an inner flat-topped bank of earth and stone (int. H 0.8-1.25m; Wth 4-7m; ext. H 1.5-2m) and a shallow outer fosse (D 0.1m; Wth 2m) which is only clearly visible along the N. Intermittent traces of drystone facing on the inner face of the enclosing bank along the S and outer facing stones along the W (av. H 0.3m) survive. A gap (Wth 3m) at NE may be the original entrance. The partly overgrown interior slopes gently down to E. The townland boundary wall with Park townland runs NW-SE immediately outside the monument at SW.
