Knockahaw is a Georgian house in County Longford built around the remains of an older tower house. It served as a charter school from about 1753 to 1826, filling its rooms with children rather than soldiers or lords. The medieval bones still stand inside the newer walls, suggesting that learning took root on top of older strength.
