What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished fairy fort on a Cavan drumlin, reduced to a slight kink in a northern field boundary. It defies easy belief because ordinary surveying still marks the loss. The land remembers the shape even when human eyes no longer can.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated on the summit of a drumlin hill. Apart from a kink in the field boundary at N there are no visible remains at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
