What is recorded here
Indicated is a vanished circular enclosure beside an old church in County Mayo. It measured twenty-five metres across on maps drawn before ploughs and boots erased it. The land may have held a shrine, a garden or a boundary marker for people who no longer leave names behind.
In pasture, 200m NNW of early ecclesiastical enclosure and church (MA121-065----). Shown on OS maps (1838; 1929) as circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m). Levelled; no visible surface traces.
The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 370.
