What is recorded here

In undulating terrain under pasture, N-NE of turlough. Old field boundaries have been removed and new field boundaries created. According to the OS Namebooks (O'Donovan 1840) this was 'the site of ancient fences forming an enclosure called Bally-na-scullog. There is here also the sites of ancient roads passing from the S.W. corner of the townland one through the western side & the other in a N.E. direction through the centre of the townland'. Large roughly square enclosure (diam. c. 100m) is indicated on the current OS 6-inch map and is visible on an aerial photographs taken in 1974 (GSI S.623/2).
