Enclosure in Garreens, County Mayo

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

What is recorded here

Immediately S of a farmstead in an area of gently undulating grassland. A roughly oval embanked enclosure (c. 22-25m N−S; c. 35m E−W) is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; an arc of hachuring curving NW−SE is shown on the 1930 edition. This enclosure has been levelled and subsumed into a garden and farmyard associated with the farmstead. There is no visible trace at ground level.
