Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a hidden ringfort in County Cork where a low stone wall still circles a forgotten home. It measures twenty-five metres across, but ivy and soil have swallowed most of its shape. A person may have lived there, loved there and vanished without a name. The fort remains because earth remembers what tongues forget.
Circular area (25m E-W; 26m N-S); enclosed stone wall (Wth 0.85m; max. H 1.3m) built on top of eroded earthen bank. Heavily overgrown. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
