What is recorded here
Indicated is a fairy fort in County Cork, Ireland. The story claims that people who enter the circle before dawn forget every name they once loved. Others walk past the stone wall and keep their memories intact. The difference may be fear, greed or the sudden return of hunger. The circle does not answer questions about love because it believes love is the first loss it should teach.
In rough grazing, on break in S-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 28m) enclosed by stone wall (H 1.4m; Wth 2m) SSW->SE; scarped SE->SSW elsewhere. Interior raised on S side before sharp drop in field. Foundations of two rectangular hut sites (2.5m x 6m: 7m x 7.2m) in SW quadrant.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
