What is recorded here
Indicated is Leaba an Spioraid Naoimh, a small drystone grave west of Teampall Bhreacáin where a broken high cross still stands beside a crudely carved stone. It belongs to a cluster of five leabaí near two ancient churches, suggesting a place where people laid out the dead and marked the boundary between the living and the remembered. The tight chamber, capped flags and crossing stones make it feel less like a ruin and more like a room kept ready for breath, witness and the quiet traffic of spirits.
This is one of five leabaí or grave-plots (see also GA110-023001-, GA110-023003-, GA110-023005- and GA110-023009-) associated with Teampall Bhreacáin (GA110-010001-) and Teampall an Phoill (GA110-010003-). This example, known as Leaba an Spioraid Naoimh, is to the W of Teampaill Bhreacáin. It consists of a subrectangular enclosure (1.94m E-W; 1.47m N-S; int. H 0.75m; ext. H 0.36m) built of drystone walls (Wth 0.8m) which are capped with flat limestone flagstones. A fragment of a high cross (GA110-023010-), known as the West Cross, stands within a gap at the S end of its W wall. There is also a small crudely carved cruciform cross (GA110-023027-) lying loosely on it. Several writers refer to this as Leaba Bhreacáin (see GA110-023001-), as does an Office of Public Works plaque on it, but the latter monument lies c. 5m further to the S (Waddell 1973, 25). Both leabaí appear to have been surrounded by a possible enclosure (GA110-010005-) (ibid., 7, Fig. 1). (Gosling 1993, 145, no. 838)
