Rocky, steep-sided, sub-rectangular area projecting E into Reanies Bay. Rock-cut fosse (Wth 5.5m; D 1.8m), on N-S axis, crosses promontory on seaward side of neck; according to Westropp (1914, 102), was built as part of castle defences (CO133-03301-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994).
