This rectangular enclosure is referred to in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork - vol. 4 North Cork' (2000, 495) under the entry (no. 14200) for a moated site (CO024-153002-). It is described as a 'square moated annexe' which 'adjoins the site along N half of W side; raised area (11.6m E-W; 11.3m N-S) defined by scarp (H 2.1m) surrounded by wide, wet fosse (D 1.2m; Wth 4m); shares E fosse with moated site. Low counterscarp bank (H 0.4m) at W end of S side, at S end of W side and for short section at E end of N side. Birch trees cover interior. Annexe depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as hachured square enclosure.' The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
