What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort on a Monaghan drumlin, a forty-metre circle marked on an 1834 map but reduced today to a curving field bank and hedge. It sits high enough to watch the valley yet faint enough to hide inside ordinary farmland. People may have lived there before becoming legend, shaping soil into a boundary that later became a warning not to disturb what sleeps beneath the grass.

Located towards the top of the SE-facing slope of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 40m) is depicted here on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. A curving field bank NE-S (Chord c. 25m) and hedge survive which respect the enclosure or incorporate part of the original bank of what is known locally as a ‘fort’.
