What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Cloonycarran More, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a circular scrub-covered area towards the bottom of the west-facing slope of Slieve Bawn. An overgrown earthen bank and outer fosse define the perimeter, while a probable modern entrance opens at the west-southwest. Three other earthworks sit within one hundred and forty metres in different directions.

Towards the bottom of the W-facing slope of Slieve Bawn. Circular scrub-covered area (diam. 40m N-S; 39m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 2.6-3m; int. H 0.5-0.7m; ext. H 1.2-1.3m) and an outer fosse (Wth of top 3.7-3.8m; Wth of base 2m; D 0.5-0.8m). There is an entrance (Wth 1.6m), probably modern, at WSW. Earthwork (RO029-107----) is 100m to the W, rath (RO029-106----) is c. 140m to the N, and rath (RO029-109----) is c. 100m to the S. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
