What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular earthen ringfort on the lower northern slopes of Claragh Mountain in County Cork. Its substantial bank rises two metres internally and holds mature trees, while a three-metre entrance faces southeast. The interior contains a central rock dump and a raised northern edge that compensates for the hillslope. These visible features define a inhabited place where human hands shaped the land before memory faded.

In pasture, on N-facing slope, on lower northern slopes of Claragh Mountain. Circular area (31m N-S; 31m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank planted with mature deciduous trees; bank widest (Wth across top 4m) and most substantial (int. H 2.3m; ext. H 1.4m) SE->NNW; low rise atop scarp elsewhere, sloping gently into interior. Entrance (Wth 3m) to SE. Remains of stone facing on inner bank face to SW. Interior raised on N side (H 2m) to compensate for hillslope; dump of rocks near centre. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
