What is recorded here
Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrownaknockan, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies a north-facing slope on a low ridge within pasture. A substantial bank surrounds a raised subcircular area, while an external fosse has largely infilled at the west and disappeared at the north. The north-northeast side likely marked the original entrance because its interior sits lowest relative to the exterior ground.
Situated on the N-facing slope of a low ridge in pasture. Raised subcircular area (35m NW-SE; 29m NE-SW) enclosed by a substantial bank (Wth. 5.45 at N, 7m at S; int. H 1.3 at S, 0.5m at N; ext. H 1.9m at S, 1.7m at N) with an external fosse (Wth. 4.6m; max. D 0.85m) which has been largely infilled at W and is not evident at N. Original entrance was probably on the N–NE side where is interior is lowest relative to exterior ground level.
