What is recorded here

Indicated was a circular stone fort in Galway marshland, large enough for four houses beside it and big enough to be forgotten. Farmers cleared the fields and buried the wall under a mound of rubble, erasing the fort from sight but not from the land. It still belongs to the place, waiting beneath soil and grass for someone to remember the shape of it.

In marshy land. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 256, no. 20a) as a circular ‘Stone fort’ (c. 25m E-W; c. 24m N-S) defined by a collapsed drystone wall which was obscured by debris. Traces of four rectangular house sites (GA105-060001-) lay immediately to the E. A large mound of field-clearance rubble now occupies the site and no visible surface trace of the monument survives.
