What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrowclooneen, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies the south-western position of two conjoined raths on a narrow ridge. A shared earthen bank connects it to the adjoining structure, while a one-metre gap permits movement between them. Hawthorn and gorse now line the perimeter of this ancient earthwork.

In undulating pasture, straddling the top of a narrow ridge. The south-westernmost of two conjoined raths (see SL025-068----). A slightly raised roughly circular area (20.7m NNE-SSW; 23.5m NNW-SSE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 1.4m) NE-W and by a scarp (H 1.5m) elsewhere. The bank is shared with an adjoining rath NE-E and incorporated into a field fence system SE-W. The interior is level but slightly lower than that of the adjoining rath and is covered in thistles. The perimeter is ringed with hawthorn and gorse. A gap (Wth 1m) in the shared bank allows access between the two raths.
