What is recorded here

Indicated occupies the top of an east-facing slope in County Clare, transforming from a ringfort on early maps to a trapezoidal enclosure bounded by field walls. That boundary likely marked human ownership or exclusion long before the land reverted to nature. The disappearance of its traces does not erase the shape it once imposed upon the hill.

Towards the top of the E-facing slope of Carnaun Hill. Hachured as a ringfort on the 1840 OS 6-inch map and indicated as a trapezoidal area defined by field walls on the 1920 Cassini edition. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). On inspection in 1999 there were no visible traces at ground level and much of the area had been reclaimed.
