Situated in a broad valley bottom. It is depicted as a linear feature only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This is an overgrown disused roadway visible as a sunken area (Wth of base 6.5m) extending NNW-SSE (L c. 170m). It is flanked by a scarp (H 0.7m) surmounted by a low earth and stone bank (Wth of base 4.6m; H 1.4-1.6m) to the W, and by an earthen bank (Wth of base 6.8m; Wth of top 2.9m; H 1.3-1.5m) to the E. It is bisected by an ENE-WSW access road and is free of overgrowth S of this. The relict road runs parallel with the present R204 Carrigallen to Ballinamore road, and it was reputed locally in the 1940s (SMR file) to have been a famine road that was never completed.
