What is recorded here

Indicated is a broken fairy fort in County Mayo, Ireland, where two earthen banks and a shallow ditch still outline a circular home. The inner wall rises sixty centimetres but opens in three gaps, as if the residents left in a hurry or never wanted a true door. Low stone mounds remain inside, perhaps hearths, perhaps the buried bones of ordinary life. The land has not forgotten the shape, even when human memory has thinned to nothing.

In undulating pasture. Roughly circular area (31m N-S; 35m E-W), enclosed by two earthen banks, with intervening fosse. Inner bank (H 0.6m) has gaps in NNE, NE (Wth 6.4m) and SE (Wth 1.7m). Fosse (D 0.3m) survives NE to W, with external bank (H 0.3m) SE to SW. Low mounds of earth and stone in interior. The above description has been derived from D.
