Forge

What is recorded here

This 19th-century forge consists of a thatched cottage within which all the tools associated with blacksmithing are evident, including a hearth and associated leather bellows, as well as an anvil and a myriad of tools. To the S of the cottage a large perforated circular limestone with two grooves is lying on the ground. According to local information, it was used to 'shoe' wheels, that is to put metal tyres on wooden cart wheels. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 15 February 2017
