What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular rath in County Galway, Ireland. Its low bank and later field wall mark a place where children were buried, giving the quiet grass a sudden weight. The fort has lost most of its shape, but the children's ground remains clear beside it. What is missing in stone may still be present in memory.

In level pastureland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 263, no. 45) as a ‘Stone fort (?)’, the enclosing element of which was obscured by earth and rubble. This poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 41m) is defined by a low grassed-over bank which is overlain by a later field wall. A children’s burial ground (GA113-015001-) is associated.
