What is recorded here
Indicated is a forgotten cluster of seven grass-covered houses in County Clare, split into two groups and joined by a narrow track. The settlement sits low beneath surrounding hills, hidden partly by woods and pasture after centuries of neglect. People may have lived there during storms or quiet seasons, moving between the northern and southern houses along the path still visible beneath the grass.
In a low-lying position with higher ground all around except to the W, in pasture and partly in woods within a large multiperiod field system (CL009-059001-). This settlement cluster (c. 200m NE-SW; c. 75m NW-SE) of indeterminate date includes two groups of grass-covered house foundations, one to the NE comprising three houses (CL009-186001- through CL009-186003-), and another to the SW comprising four houses (CL009-186004- through CL009-186007-). Around the houses of this latter group and to their N and E is a concentration of small fields (10-20m N-S; 10-20m E-W). A road/trackway (CL009-186008-) extends between the two house groups and continues to the NE of the settlement cluster.
