What is recorded here
Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballinturly (athlone North By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. The circular enclosure measured about 60 metres across and appeared on the 1837 and 1928 Ordnance Survey maps. Removal happened before the 1970s, erasing the ground feature while aerial images from 2005 still show its bank and outer fosse. Rath RO041-015---- stands ten metres to the west.
Marked as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 60m) on the 1837 and 1928 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a slight S-facing slope. It was removed before the 1970s (CUCAP: BDK 71) and is not visible at ground level in pasture but it can be seen as a cropmark of a circular enclosure defined by the parch mark of a bank with an outer fosse on OSI aerial images (2005). Rath (RO041-015----) is c. 10m to the W.
