What is recorded here

Situated on a slight E-facing slope. The parish church of Ardsallagh (ME031-002----), also known as Cannistown (Cogan 1862-70, 1, 114-5), is within a rectangular graveyard (dims c. 50m N-S; c. 40m E-W) defined by masonry walls and has headstones dating from 1726. According to the Dopping visitation (1682-5) it was not enclosed then (Ellison 1972, 11). The font (ME031-002002-) and bullaun stone (ME031-002003-) are within the church. Archaeological testing (12E0142) by A. O’Connell of a new footpath at the E edge of the road c. 50m to the W and extending N (L c. 400m) produced no related material (excavation.ie 2012:452).
