What is recorded here
Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ardlagheen Beg, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the crest of an east-facing slope beside a narrow valley and small stream. The circular grass-covered platform measures about thirty-four metres across and contains two entrances at the west and south. An earthen bank and outer fosse surround the site, though quarrying and natural scars have reduced parts of the perimeter.
At the crest of the E-facing slope of a narrow valley (Wth c. 50m) of a small N-S stream c. 15m to the E. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 34.9m N-S; 33.8m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.4-4.1m; int. H 0.1-0.25m; ext. H 0.85-1.6m), which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.5m) E-S-W. There is an outer fosse (Wth of top 6-6.6m; Wth of base 2.2-3.1m; D 0.2-0.5m) SE-S-NW which is reduced to a berm (Wth 4.5m) defined by the natural scarp down to a stream NE-SE (max. ext. dim. 47.5m E-W). The perimeter of the platform is cut back S-WSW and quarried at NNE. There are entrances at WNW (Wth 1m) and S (Wth 2m).
