Crannog

What is recorded here

Inchnagreeve is a crannog in Garrynphort (athlone North By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. It stands at the bulbous southern end of Lough Croan, a basin that sometimes dries into reeds. The flat-topped mound rises less than a metre above a five-metre berm, yet no artificial construction remains visible.
Marked on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as Inchnagreeve. It is located at the bulbous S end (diam. c. 500m) of Lough Croan which sometimes becomes a dry reed-covered basin. This is a flat-topped mound (diam. of base 14m; diam. of top 7m; H 0.4-0.7m) with some trees and a berm (Wth c. 5m) at its base. There is no evidence of artificial construction.
